Despite the rain, this was probably the best Gathering yet. Such a high standard of performances all round. As usual, lots of new faces and new talent. A great mix of Nick songs and original material. And chatting to old friends over a pint outside The Bell. What more could anyone want - we had a lovely time.
What a lovely event this was again, soaking up the good music on the harbourside in the sunshine surrounded by good friends. Talking of which, I was really chuffed that Gordon Giltrap came down to watch the set. And what a performance he gave in his concert that evening.
I'm working hard at the moment on recording my first album. It's a weird, isolated kind of process (I'm not using a producer or any other musicians) - but things are steadily taking shape. I certainly don't have any shortage of material, so one of the problems is judging which songs to put in and leave out.
Great to see the new Clay Eals biography of Steve Goodman published at last. Clay and I exchanged a lot of emails last year about the couple of times I saw Steve perform here early in his career. The guy was a musical genius, and I have a classic video of him on my Myspace page. Thanks to Clay for the mentions in the book.
